Why Everyone Falls In Love With Thailands Chiang Mai – RTW S5 EP9

Thailand Motorcycle Adventure Day Off

Chiang Mai is a city that quietly slows you down.

In this video, we spend the day exploring Chiang Mai, Thailand, wandering through the old city, local streets, temples, cafés, and the surrounding mountains of northern Thailand. No rush, no checklist. Just the small details that make this city such a special place to spend time.

From the historic old town to the quieter roads outside the city, Chiang Mai balances culture, daily life, and nature in a way few places do. It’s easy to see why so many travellers choose to stay longer here.

This video is a relaxed look at what a day in Chiang Mai is really like, focusing on the atmosphere, the surroundings, and the rhythm of the city rather than a step-by-step travel guide.

If you’re planning to visit Thailand or are curious about life in Chiang Mai, we hope this gives you a genuine feel for the place.

  1. The temples were very impressive, so beautifully decorated and the attention to detail is extraordinary. That journey up to that one temple in the back of the pick-up looked a bit dubious, one slip and you would have been out the back of it.

Are you both vegan or just vegetarian? I've never seen you have dairy products in your tea or coffee? I must say Emily's dinner was very colourful, looked interesting

  2. Thailand is a patriarchy society and there are a few prohibitions against female, esp regarding sacred places where female is not allowed entry including Muay Thai stadium and some sacred temple sites though officially there is no restriction. Over the years such restrictions loosen or gone such as Muay Thai stadium and Wat Prathat Doi Suthep's golden pagoda. I am surprised there is still one in a temple in Chiang Mai.

  3. The memorial Buddha has been found in Chiangrai and then it moved to Lampoon, Chiangmai, and Luang Prabang (Laos). It is now in the Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand. Don't forget to stop by. Always enjoy your video.

  5. Great episodes! The elephant sanctuary was beyond amazing – being able to walk and interact with such a wonderful species is an incredible privilege. It was very evident the impression this experience had for both of you and sharing it (as you have with so many other experiences) is just another gift!! I must agree that Chiang Mai is a city of unexpected splendor with its temples and ancient history (and its eateries). So glad you took the ride for the Temple overlooking the city as that temple was "over the top." Thailand from the back seat of Storm continues to amaze me! As today is the 23rd, i want to wish you both and your families a Happy Christmas and an ever abundant New Year! Thank you so very much for this gift of your journey . . . as always, travel safe RJ

  6. You megastars…. Merry Christmas… stay safe… Live life love ride with a smile😊🎉

Wherever you arrive in the next two days to spend Christmas I am sure it will be special…. Christmas whilst on your Round The World Tour is such an amazing thing.

  7. Yes, what a lot of detail and money has been spent on those temples but why aren't women allowed into that one?!! I find that very disappointing to say the least! Your evening meal looked amazing and what great value.

  8. Once again your video is amazing! The temples were absolutely beautiful! The only problem is you keep exposing myself and my better half to places we now have to visit!! Lol, ride safe and take care!!

  9. Thanks for sharing! Chiang Mai is so wonderful. When we lived in Singapore in the mid '80s, I was fortunate enough to visit Chiang Mai twice. It was less commercialized but still very important to the Budhist religion in SE Asia. Always loved Thai food! Hope you are becoming acliamitized to the heat and humidity! Ride safe!

  10. คุณอธิบายบางอย่างที่เกี่ยวกับศาสนาของฉันได้ค่อนข้างดี ขอบคุณนะคะ

  11. There's a four wheeled version of you called jammydailylife or something like that. Be flattered! Land Rover discovery is the vehicle. Ciao for now. X

  12. Thank you muchly! Burned some more power because of one of your shorts featuring Freebird! A group not always lucky in flight!! I've had a bit of brain freezing and cooking lately but really it's been for years and on a daily basis but I try not to let it get to me too much and it's become normal. We had another casualty today, into that room upstairs until the day!! Great being on holiday with you but I admit I stayed for another drink. Hopefully it's nearly time to start panicking about the packing! Take care and best wishes from Andalucia Looks like Trump is striding down the track, all yours keeper!!! King 'ell!!! X

  14. Chiang Mai is awesome, we always base ourselves there and do our adventures from there. Have a safe trip to Pai, I am interested to see what you both think of it, it was our least favourite place.

  15. Fun fact : Thai people believe that building a temple will give them a lot of merits. So much so if you look closely at some town or city, you might see a temple every 100-200 meters away.

  16. "ขอให้ทริปนี้เต็มไปด้วยความสนุกสนาน และประสบการณ์ดีๆ นะ! ขอให้เจอแต่ความสุขและคนดีๆ ตลอดการเดินทาง ขอให้ปลอดภัยและกลับมาพร้อมความทรงจำที่ดีนะครับ" 😊🌏✨
    สนุกกับการเที่ยวมากๆ นะ!

  17. Glad to see you two had a great time in Chiang Mai!

2:25 The Emerald Buddha was moved to Bangkok in 1784, after about 100 years in the Lanna Kingdom and 200 years in Laos. Today, you can see it at the Grand Palace. A must-see if you're in Bangkok.

  18. Hi Sean and Emily, I was stunned at every temple with the gold and all the colours, I wonder why women wern't allowed in the first one, that looked a fun drive up to the last temple, glad you didn't fall out the open back Emily, even your meal and drinks were so colourful matching the temples, All the best, Roy 😊.

  19. Wow, what an amazing place. There is so much to see, so much detail ìn the temples. As I have mentioned previously, how did they ever build such structures. The food looks brilliant, and to have totally vegetarian restaurant would suit my wife. Keep the videos coming, guys. I really enjoy every one. Thankyou.

  20. เชียงใหม่มีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวเยอะมากเสียดายคุณมีเวลาไม่มาก..ขอให้คุณเดินทางโดยปลอดภัย😊

  21. That brought back many happy memories , I’d almost forgotten quite how much gold leaf there was at Wat Doi Suthep , I’m glad you made it there , I’d forgotten about hanging on in the back of a truck , though clearly Emily is well practiced at clinging on 🤣 We took a bicycle rickshaw trip around about 10 temples in Chiang Mai though I’m sure there were hundreds more 😃 You’re certainly eating very well these days Since you first crossed into China , long may it continue 😃🍻☕️
