Chiang Mai Burning 2026: Not Looking So Good!

Chiang Mai Burning Season Update: It Got Bad… FAST! 😷

Just days after my last vlog celebrating clear skies, the Thailand burning season has officially hit Chiang Mai. The smog rolled in fast, completely covering the mountains with AQI levels spiking over 200 in some areas.

In this quick travel update, I head back up to the Doi Kham viewpoint to show you the shocking before-and-after comparison. It’s a complete 180 from last weekβ€”the city currently looks like a smoke bomb went off!

In this vlog, we cover:

The sudden spike in Chiang Mai’s air pollution and fire maps.

A shocking visual comparison of the smog from Doi Kham.

My honest advice on whether you should travel here before Songkran.

If you’re planning a trip to Northern Thailand right now, you might want to hold off for a few days to see if the air clears. Stay safe out there, and let’s hope for blue skies soon!

  1. Here in Lamphun, March was good this year, but when we got back from Cha Am on 1st April after a week away, the sh_t had hit the fan.

  2. I’ve been avoiding Chiang Mai during this time of year for the past eight years. This year was exceptionally bad. Nothing meaningful has been done to stop the burning, and there has been little accountability from the authorities. Just meeting after meeting with no real action.

  3. Yeah; It's really bad. step outside at night and turn on a flashlight. you can see how dense the smoke is. Old house like ours is a sieve, big vents in the walls that don't close. Wasn't so bad last year. 'effing clowns just NEED their Hed Todt (Thai Truffles) in the rain season so, they light the hills ablaze to promote the fungus growth. Not a care to anyone else, typical. Look at all the trash along any road side if you think the give a flying f**k about the environment or much else, just give cheap booze and crank the party speakers to 180 db all night.

  4. Wow, just think – you're breathing all of that in. That can't be good for your lungs. I just wonder what the long term effects will be later on.

  5. Thanks for sharing Wayne.
Was always guna happen eh its just part of life in northern Thailand. Doesn't matter what the government might say the farmers will always burn off the chaff.
Just stay in the nearest pub mate an have a couple o cold beers.
    Cheers mate

  6. in regards to pollution – i think it's a bit of a worldwide issue – i think. We have those problems here in south korea – just as bad. Parts of the states as well, i hear. Certainly china. Sadly, no escaping it. best bet is to mask up outside and vote (if u can) for leaders who give a crap about peoples health over profits.

  7. AQI has jumped up to 168 tonight. Smells like burning outside . They burn at night ban or no ban. It's hell in the Lamphun countryside with green mangos and longan orchards. Air purifier in home is on full blast now. The smoke gets in the smallest crack around the doors.

  8. Reminds me of bushfire season in Australia and it all depends on the weather how bad it is but still Chiang Mai is beautiful πŸŽ‰

  9. You do know this seasonal high air pollution will take at least 10 years off your lifespan its horrible causes cancer. its a heavy price to pay in the long run its nothing to joke or laugh about.
