Thanks for mentioning about the TP. I was trying to plan out a trip to spend 2 weeks in Chang Mai, 2 weeks in Danang, 2 weeks in KL, and 2 weeks in Siem Reap but the no flushing toilet paper is a hard no for me the sewer smell is too. I can’t believe no one has ever mentioned it.
Zero sewage smell when I was there a few years ago.
COSTS monthly for 1
If you go to the university there is a huge park. Check it out.
I am excited to be visiting Chiang Mai in January for a month. As a slow traveler inspired by your content, I’m excited to just explore a budget friendly foodie city!
"Nurse Mary Jane'. Struck my funny bone. Thanks yall for such an informative presentation 🙂
where were you in chiangmai? never had a sewer smell? I've never encountered it anywhere I've visited
Is the most pollute city in the world.
I thought we are old. 😮 But, now I know we are not yet old. 😂
Chiang Mai is a true treasure—always has been, always will be.🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
Visit definitely. Siemens Reap, at least once. Also, the Temple City. Lastly Ta Prohm Temple. The Flying Foxes Bats with a five foot wingspan! I’m barely 5’ tall, so yep, this sounds intriguing to say the least. I have seen this video more times than I would dare to count.
Amelia stay in chiang mai, i want to buy you a beer
The smell must be a fish sauce smell that most Americans are not used to. Once you taste Thai food and are familiar with its smell then you will not notice it. The heat makes the smell stronger.
What you said about the smoky air during the burn season is very true. I was in the midst of a one-month stay there and I actually ended up leaving early because the smoke in the air was so unpleasant. Breathing that air can't possibly be safe.
We were in Chiang Mai Jan 2025 and they have cleaned up the area from the flood in 24. The sewer smell isn’t a big issue now, I’ve travelled throughout Latin America and Asia also so you’re definitely right about it being a common thing throughout the world. Great video!!! We went there to scout it out as a possible retirement location
For the sewer smell, Azusa makes everything for those home smells. Check it out on line. They have good sales, and these can be packed to travel from city to city. These videos are fantastic. Thanks so much.😊
Very interesting ! However I am still looking for a place with a lot of gardens and flowers… and hot during winter. In the countries you visited, you would have à recommandation ? 😊😊
saw there was a 7.7 mag earthquake in Thailand? You guys okay??
Mentioned was "The Cathedral" and "The temple".
Fact is…there are over 300 Buddhist temples in Chaing Mai Thailand.
Chiang Mai is great. It's really for a 30's ish crowd. There are many legit / professional / moral thai massage … it's not like Phuket where the feel is sketchy and immoral.
you lost me at 'sewer smell'
Does anyone know if there are any areas in the general vicinity of Chiang Mai with significant numbers of Australian expat retirees? Or are there any other areas outside of CM urban setting with large percentages expat populations? If so, please share. This is what I am looking for. Sincere thanks.
We were there in dec 2024. Lets make a different summary. I agree with some of your points. The worst is air quality. Most people avoid the discussion. Thailand and especially ChiangMai is very very bad with score >100 every day. My blood pressure increased from 120 to 180 in few weeks. Then we saw a doctor who gave us medicines. The pharmacy rarely have a pharmacist and most products are low in quality because they are made in Thailand and Vietnam. I know i work inthe pharmaceutical business. Then we got vitamins and had to throw them in the garbage because they include banned ingredients in other countries. Almost all cars and tuck tuck are failing at air pollution standards and some times you wait at traffic lights breathing unhealthy fumes. 2) food always include MSG or glutamate which is forbidden uin EU and North America. This activate your glutamate receptor and create a number of CNS disorders. Yes the food is cheap but dont expect to be healthy. For the last 6 months and retired Canadians travelling in different countries in Asia, this was the worst experience travelling. If your are sensitive and have medical conditions, i would not venture long stays in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Channels always tell you about the sun and sand but the environment and the food is not tottally highlighted in those videos.
A very concise and thorough review. Thank you. Have been to Bangkok many times over the years but never to Chiang Mai. I might try it now next trip. Bangkok is great but so crowded although there is a beautiful park in the heart of the city. Thanks again for a terrific, informative review.
Appreciate the channel! Just subscribed as I'll be relocating to Southeast Asia this spring/summer. Will you guys being going to Laos anytime soon?
Thank you for visit Changmai Thailand
Fun to see you guys came here to Chiang Mai…..I spent 4 months in Cuenca because of you…..I left my heart there….I went back there last April for a month……
Hello 😊. I am flying to Chiang Mai on the 18th of this month. I was hoping I could as you a few questions. Please reply if your available. Thank you!
I am in a powerchair. Not having luck finding a country that is wheelchair friendly outside the U.S.😢😢😢
Not fair you give KL a long distance from home a dumb down, but not Thailand 😂
I lived in CM for 7 years and then moved to southern Spain. Yes, the burning season is horrible. An AQI of more than 400 can happen often. Also northern Thailand is in April/Mai the hottest area of Thailand with temperatures of around 40 C.
On the other hand, the food is amazing, the expat community is great and the surroundings are beautiful.
So which cities beat Chiang Mai in your opinion? I see you gave KL 7.5… hehe
