Just moved here.
Just an FYI for anyone who is thinking about moving to Chiang Mai, Nimman also hates dogs and they are banned from living at all the condos in that area.
This is most unfortunate because if you want to walk your dog with sidewalks Nimman is the only area with sidewalks it seems.
tuck tucks? lol
Limited night life in Chiang Mai is one of the many things I love about this beautiful city.
4 days ago,CM highest PM 2.5 pollution IN THE WORLD! ADD 35C temps. GOT HEAT STROKE ?😅
I want to move to CM from September for about 6 months however, I’ve seen videos of floods during the rainy seasons. Which place is best to remain safe during the floods ?
rec
This was the best Chiang Mai guide I have watched, out of hundred. Thank you!
Cal, i would love to hear more on the long-term mass transit plan for CM?
Having foreing visitors is their country entire business model, yet after decades their transport drivers keep trying to scam tourists. Truly deplorable.
i only have one scheduled plan when ever im in thailand.. and thats get laid everyday.. other than that.. everything else is a side quest
I live in Chiang Mai and never use Tuk Tuks or Taxis. Grab has always been my go to for transportation if I'm going out.
A good video with some notable omissions. I’m surprised you did not delve into the night bazaar area, particularly in regards to nightlife. That area offers a lot of family, friendly or couples, friendly activities, including bars, most with pool tables, expansive food courts, Cabaret shows, and the street vendors themselves which sell tons of different handicrafts and souvenirs. As for Loi khro Rd., it is probably not a great venue for couples and families because it consists mostly of ladies bars, but to say a few visitors go there is completely wrong. It is highly trafficked by single men or groups of men. We’re talking many hundreds every night. It’s not for everybody, but you can’t be too dismissive of it as it is a strong draw for a particular type of tourists. Another notable omission is Spicy, a nightclub, not far from Zoe. It is open very late and consists almost entirely of a dance floor. It gets extremely busy after midnight and stays open until three or 4 AM. It is extremely popular among younger travelers, men and women., and also attracts a fair number of ties, though it will be mostly foreign tourist there.
Check my has a lot of nightlife. I know because I’ve lived here for eight years. You comment that many streets seemed dark and deserted at midnight, but that’s partly because, by law, most entertainment venues are supposed to close by 1 AM. That said, most entertainment venues ignore the restriction and you can find plenty of places open until much later. Your conclusion that Chiang Mai does not have much nightlife, probably stem from the fact that you were only considering venues that catered to foreigners. That’s a big mistake because some of the most fun places to visit cater to Thai people, but are very welcoming to foreigners as well. Tawandang, jazz club.Fin Fin. These are tremendously fun places with live music and a good vibe. But I’ll bet you never heard of them and never considered them.
Have been to CM 10 times and have never been scammed. Generally just be aware and take normal precautions.
Look before you book. I almost booked two shite holes in ao nang cause.. air bnb. Photos not accurate, location not good and rooms not great. Im back to old school travelling. I book a room in a budget hotel for two nights. Day one i find my long term place and chexk out in-the morning
This guy guy has the script xrong. There is no bad air quality in February starts in March and ends in April. The weather is cool and dry until the end of February. The climate has changed, Chaing Mai is much cooler and light rain.
Thanks for the tip about Rent Hub.
Hello maluy if your still boxing massage lady
Bingo German guyhad best bar , open 10am till 10 pm ,was great,
Ignore his eSIM, go to a phone company in Thailand and get a cheap eSIM. Much cheaper
Cal is spot on as usual. I have lived in Chiang Mai for six years now with living inside the moat for four of those years. I must slightly disagree with his assessment of "night life" in the old city. While you're not going to find big disco techs on every corner or huge girly bars like in Nana or Soi Cowboy, the old city is chock full of cool little club/bars and great restaurants are abundant. Loi Kroh is the "red light" district, but there are plenty of non "girly" bars and lots of places to eat/drink/be merry. Watch out for much higher prices for things like beer and mixed drinks on Loi Kroh. There are side streets all up and down it and, as stated, there are an abundance of cool/hip little places to hang out just across the moat in the Old City that are much more reasonable–i.e., if you pay more than 100thb for a big beer, you're probably on Loi Kroh and in a "girly" bar. I've had the privilege of traveling to most of the cities in Thailand due to motorcycle riding and of all the places I've been, CM is, hands down, the best place imho. Yes, the smoky season is pretty bad, but it really doesn't last that long and, as Cal stated, it's pretty easy and cheap to escape down to the islands or over to Vietnam for a break from that. Bottom line is, unless you want a Nana, Pattaya or Phuket "vibe" all the time, Chiang Mai is probably the most agreeable city in the country and, heck, the quiet nature of it is what is so appealing. Oh, and aside from the mentioned scams, CM is almost crime free. I have not taken the key out of either my big bike or my scooter since I bought them and I used to park them on the street every night in the Old City and I never once locked the door to my apartment. Muggings, home invasions, pick pocketing, etc…, are pretty much non-existent even in the wee hours of the morning. Thanks again Cal, you do a great job!!
1. Go back.
Loved it! Very helpful
Thank you🙂
Most boring shit hole in Thailand
