Experience the magic of the Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand… without breaking the bank. 🏮✨
Looking for things to do in Thailand? Here are our travel tips for joining the Sky Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand for free:
🧠 What to Know:
• Celebrated throughout northern Thailand, but Chiang Mai is the main area
• Occurs every year in November, on the full moon 🌕
📍Two Designated Sites:
1️⃣ Iron Bridge / Nawarat Bridge: Parade, vendors, and an electric atmosphere. Fireworks and lantern releases galore! 🎆
2️⃣ Doi Saket Lakes: Less crowded, more intimate vibes, and breathtaking views over the lake during the festivities. 🏞️
🎆 Atmosphere:
Friendly and magical but also wild.💥 Lisa’s hair almost got caught on fire. Lanterns and krathongs are 50-100 baht (less than 3USD) in the streets.
🏡 Most stay in the Old Town (aka Old City), but we recommend staying in Nimman for a hip, calmer experience away from the chaos.
📲 Avoid RideShare issues: Download Grab, InDrive, and Bolt. You’ll always be able to grab a TukTuk (or even walk) but note that price-gouging will be abundant.
This will be one of the most unique travel destinations of your lifetime!
