You honestly can get 10 times more than this in Surat thani,and Hat yai which both are in deep south Thailand you will be spending half of this.Foreigners in Thailand need to stop allowing themselves to get ripped off.Also if you go on the actual Thai website for apartments for rent you will find these same places for much less.You want to rent or buy from a developer or owner who is pricing it in local currency terms because you know you won't be over paying.But if there charging in dollar terms then you will be over paying by a few hundred or even by a few thousand.
You are a pivello in Thailand 433 $ at month what do you intend for rent ?! Because if are for rent you are without offense out your brain! I spend 400 $ sbout all incluse ! Rent ,food ,electric snd water bill gasoline for my motorcycle and so on !

Hi, I was never in Thailand before but I would prefer Chang Mai over Bangkok from what I see.
I think its good to have calm homebase and if you want some adventures or fun you could just make trips or go to city for a weekend! I'm sure they also have a nightlife near.
