Chiang Mai is full of incredible flavours!
Today we explore a huge local food market and local restaurant to show you some of the best food Northern Thailand has to offer!
We start our day at Siri Wattana Market (Tha-nin Market) — a bustling local market where the sights, smells, and sounds of Chiang Mai food come alive. Here, we snack on some seriously delicious local street food.
🍤 Crispy Prawn Fritters – golden, crunchy, prawn perfection
🌶️ Sai Ua (Northern Thai Sausage) – packed with herbs, spice and smoky flavour
🍗 Fried Chicken – simple, crispy, and full of flavour
🍬 Traditional Thai Sweets – sweet, sticky, and oh-so-delicious
Next, we jump in a Grab and head about 25 minutes out of town to a hidden gem.
Guay Tiew Pet Tun Saraphi, a humble, very local, duck restaurant located in a local house-shop along a quiet country road. Don’t let the simple setup fool you — this duck is next level! This place is a true local secret. Here we devour
🦆 🍜 Duck Khao Soi – rich, fragrant, coconutty and comforting
🦆 🍚 Duck and Rice – served with pickled vegetables and a soul-soothing duck broth
What an amazing food adventure in this foodie paradise!

We also have chicken blood cube/cake in Thai dishes.
Tha green leaf in the Grab car is probably pandan, which you two had tried in pandan custard you dipped the deep-fried dough stick in.

I truly enjoyed watching this. I learnt so much, I particularly appreciated learning about etiquette, and the food.
I’ve been to Thailand twice, the first time was 30yrs ago with Dad. Coming from country NSW, we knew nothing, and were scared of all the food options. So we chickened out and got ripped off at the fancy restaurant 🤦♂️🤣 We stayed at the Grand China Princess in Chinatown. 30 years ago, that was a really nice hotel. And 30 years ago, Chinatown had a crackdown on stalls spilling everywhere and making the place stinky. So they limited them to the alleys only, and made them clean up their unhygienic acts. Chinatown was a very different place back then
Seeing you both eat the desserts outside the markets – you'd think u were outside Rustys! And have to say- stressed out at work and this is my outlet to rellllaaaaaaxxxxation! 💙💙🌴. Bit of trivia about the Thai King- he attended the same school where my sons go for a couple of yrs – The Kings School North Parra. Look it up on website.. its true lol
❤😂😂❤
I was so happy to come across your video today. It is lovely to see people enjoy Chiang Mai as much as we do! We ✈️ in less than a month and can not wait to reconnect with our favorite foods. You even visited our favorite market! (There are a few tiny tables to eat near the back of the market for future reference.) The neighborhood between the market and Maya is lovely and local. We stay at an Airbnb there that runs about $ 30 USD in case you head back next year. 😉 If you choose to head north, the countryside is EPIC. Doi Chang is coffee farms and amazing views.
Wishing you all the best in your travels! We are an 🇺🇸 & 🇸🇨 couple living on our own organic shamba in 🇰🇪.
45:58 Yessss this dessert is so so so amazing incredible smell
You should try the Mae Hia fresh market on Canal Road. I used to go there all the time when I lived there

Stop pointing at stuff with your finger – especially the King! It's considered very rude in Thailand
Tim … you’re the positive person! 😝
That is a tiny egg from the orange ants.
That market looks fantastic, but while travelling have you even got food poisoning
Luv ur video!
Thai people calls culantro 'pak shee farang' Pak shee means cilantro and i don't have to tell you what farang means 😅
Welcome to Chiang Mai from 2 expat Aussies, guys. Nice to listen to Aussie accent. Enjoy your trip
Siri Wattana or Tannin market
1000Baht for the 2 duck dishes and a bottle of water would still be cheaper than Australia.
