Wondering why people avoid Thailand?
Consider this:
I know that there are many people like me that always come back to thailand over and over again exactly same as me.
i opened a bank account many years back just so that i should not take cash with me and so that i not have to pay taxes every time i use ATMs.
I am not young anymore and probably still old school because my thai ATM card is in one place, my booklet is in another, my backup cars is somewhere else again just to be sure about things.
Now, apart the fact that I tend to leave my phone alone when i am in holiday (to the point that i not even open my foreigner number when i am in holiday), i am forced to use my phone anyway?
What if my battery dies? This is BS already but it gets worse when you consider the combination of new "rules" and BS they are imposing. Why you ask?
I should make the arrival BS online this week but the problem is that i don't know if my bank account is still open or not.
If it is still open and usable, i will probably go straight to Pattaya from the airport but if it is closed, I need to go where i opened the account and try to get my money back.
That implies a view things:
1) i need to have enough cash on the plane to change at the airport (with the worse exchange rate) to go to the bank where i opened the account is.
2) probably spend the day there because it seems that when the account is closed, it is not a thing of a view minutes to get your money
3) I have to find alternatives on how to manage my money on my holiday and try to open one of those cashless apps in one day and hope that the transfer of founds is quickly as well. Note that i need the money to buy the new sim as well so back to point 1).
4) Like i said, i am old school so maybe this time i am forced to do this BS and go along with it but there will probably not be a next time for me in thailand. I always said that going to thailand for me is easy because I was organized for it, i had a bank account for my financial needs, the TM6 didn't really bothered me because anyway you are in a plane doing nothing so compiling it, wasn't a big deal. Now i have to remember to make that BS online exactly in the 4 days (to my knowledge) timeframe you have to do it and use up time i could be making other things. Last but not least, i left always some money in my bank account for the next time so if something should happen to me, somebody could get that money for free.
5) The cherry on top of all of this is that a) i actually can not book an hotel because i don't know if my first day will be in Pattaya or Bangkok b) I will probably make the wrong choice when compiling the visa thing because i know my luck. If i put Pattaya, my bank account will be blocked and i have to stay in Bangkok or opposite. Wondering why? When will i know if my bank account is closed? When exiting the plane in BKK and putting my card in the first ATM of my bank that i can find.
Way to go Thailand...you really make me feel relaxed and happy to go there.....
6) I can very well forsee problems at immigration if I try to explain this story to them because i had already had bad experience with them. Once (last year when there was no TM6 or anything else) they asked me where i will stay and i answered honestly that i will go look for an hotel when i know where i will go. They almost did't want me to let me in even if my passport has amost every page with thai stamps and i am fluent in thai.
Same they don't want to resolve the taxi problem at the airport and the feeling "not welcome to Thailand", they are adding other hurdles before even getting to the taxi that say you are not welcome!
Thailand was always the land of freedom and i understand that many people misused that but then you fine/punish those people and not all people going to thailand that didn't do anything wrong!
Will the smearing money for the police be paid by scan app as well??!!!
