Thailand Floods Are HERE Again!

🌧️ Chiang Mai is flooding AGAIN! 🌧️ After last year’s major floods, we were really hoping for a longer break from the heavy rains. But as the 2025 rainy season kicks off in Thailand, we’re already seeing significant rainfall and widespread flooding, much earlier than usual for Chiang Mai.

Normally, the worst of the flooding in Chiang Mai happens later in the rainy season (June to October), but this year the skies have opened up early. Today, I’m taking you on a tour around Chiang Mai to check out some of the most flood-prone areas and get a live look at the Ping River’s water levels. It’s crucial to understand how quickly things can change here.

Chiang Mai’s unique geography and rapid urbanization contribute to its recurring flood issues. The city sits in a basin, and when the Ping River, which flows through the heart of the city, overflows its banks, the low-lying areas are quickly inundated. Deforestation in the surrounding hills also plays a role, increasing runoff into the river.

We’ve already seen heavy downpours leading to flash flood warnings in districts like Mae Rim, and national parks like Ob Khan have even had to close. The Ping River’s water levels are a constant concern, and authorities are often engaged in efforts like dredging to manage the flow.

Stay tuned to see the situation on the ground and get an idea of what early flooding means for locals and visitors!

If you’re in Chiang Mai or planning to visit, stay updated on the local weather forecasts and official advisories. Safety first!

  1. As a britt we love the rain 😊 especially the monsoon rain you have there. But I don't want you do have the foods and the hardships this brings. I think the thailand government needs to implement!!!😮 a long term plan for this yearly event

  2. We were in MaeSai Chiang Rai on the 13th of September when the real flooding started there so very early this year. But down here on the island the rainy season usually starts September but we have had lots rain lately. So its very disheartening for business and people trying to make a living. Stay safe buddy.

  3. The Thais need help with drainage. It’s not that expensive they need the army and volunteers to go into the jungle on the sides of the valleys that ping river runs through and build lots of leaky dams from natural materials in the jungle. Leaky dams slow the runoff from the mountains into the river so there isn’t a sudden jump in the amount of water going into the river.

  4. Let's just pray that things don't get really bad like last year. It amazes me how resilient the Thai people are.
Stay safe and take it easy mate.
    Thanks as always for sharing.

  5. I remember last years floods mainly from your channel, you did some good reporting, and it was clear how bad they were when I watched them. I really hope they are not worse this yearbut extreme weather in the U.S. gets worse every year. I'm no longer optimistic about weather improving I guess. Hoping this year is different for CM. 🙏

  6. With that Ping only 3 feet under that bridge you show @1:30 in MAY …. I am guessing flooding on its way 101%…Thailand always drags its feet year after year of flooding & burning….Get with it Thailand! Hire Engineers from the Netherlands which is Below Sea Level! They know what goes where & why! Having Raw Sewage floating down your streets is bad for your people & bad for tourism too!

  7. I hope voor the Thai people this time no extreme flooding that's terrible the have the earthquakes this year that's enough for this people !!

  8. I have a house in Bo Sang, Saraphi and Hang Dong near the airport. Last year, the creek behind my house in Bo Sang flooded, along with a couple of nearby streets. My Thai neighbor, who takes care of my house while I’m in the U.S., is in the process of building a 3 foot wall behind her house and mine to keep flood waters away from the 2 houses. No water last year in the Bo Sang and Hang Dong houses. However, the Saraphi house got about 6 inches of water in it. I’ll be back in August to see the new wall and buy sand bags if I need them.

  9. The good thing about rainy season is it helps bring down the heat and air pollution, but yeah, I hate it when it floods.

  10. Holy Cow! I feel for the people who have to endure the flooding and just can't move to higher ground. Keep bringing the news about the floods. I look at google maps to see the flood zones. If I search "central Chiang Mai floods" on google maps, it shows the flooded areas. Where does all that water flow after Chiang Mai? Does the water make it to the Gulf of Thailand?

  11. Thank you for the update Wayne great videos as always we’re on our way to Thailand now and we’re planning on going to CM might have to reconsider 🧐😔

  12. I imagine there is a little flooding every year so let's hope and pray that it doesn't get any worse than this in Chang Mia and in all of Thailand for that matter! Thanks for the update and for all of your videos! Please be careful driving those flooded roads! Take it easy man

  13. The coming day or two should bring some flooding to Chiang Mai. Not ready for this again. We are in San Phak Wan and the Moo Baan here was flooded last year..,.
