2-3 dollars gets you a dish, not a meal. Thai portions are small. I doubled up to get a large Pad Thai w/shrimp and it was 160 baht. You'd still need a drink at minimum but I also needed rice and/or something else to fill out the meal. Sure, get something for 3 dollars but you'll be doing that 5 times a day plus snacks plus drinks. That's how Thais do it.

I lived in Chiang Mai for over 2 years , first year I spent a lot . But after having a gf I saveed so much more . She took me as a local and I was saving more then spending lol . We went to the street markets everyday because they have different markets and different locations . For breakfast we would have omelette with rice . For lunch is boat noodles . And dinner was the market . I did that for one year while being with her I was so thankful for her tht were still together now and about to have a daughter soon . And I saved so much money that it wil pay for the hospital bills for labor etc which i never expected but you never know when you need money 💰 . I love Chiang Mai

Medical expenses If you are slightly sick Buy medicine at 7-Eleven Or at drugstores it's very cheap. Or you can find a doctor at a clinic, but what if your arm or leg is broken or requires surgery? Public hospitals are about 10 times cheaper than private ones, but the disadvantage is long queues. But some government hospitals have an international department to save time. But the treatment cost is still about 2-3 times cheaper than a private hospital, or maybe around. 50%, depending on the case.
