One of my favorite restaurants next to your hotel (across the street) is Lemongrass. Give it a try next time if you like. Fantastic khao soi, IMO.

Its Bank Holiday Monday here in UK Chuck, Paige, Mitch and Dao. Cool place there with so much variety of food. Both you and Mitch have lost weight, congrats. The charm is the ultra modern hotels and the rugged rural settings.
You must have been hungry in the food market. Oh that looks nice , so does that, that and that …..The I see food diet.

FYI – about that “uninviting” klong next to your hotel. That klong runs through CM and is section by section being cleaned and “made over” so that in a few years you will be able to walk through the city along that klong with shops and restaurants lining it. (Like Riverwalk in San Antonio). One large klong section has already been completed.
We stayed at that hotel last year, for the price and location its kind of hard to beat. The hotel we stayed at on this years trip was way more expensive but not as much around it so back to Duangtawan next time
