Thailand’s Special Express 9 is one of Southeast Asia’s most popular tourist trains, connecting the capital of Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the jungle-bound north. I took a ride on their deluxe first class sleeper car, including shower, food, and solo occupancy of the berth all the way to Chiang Mai and I really enjoyed the trip!

  2. Nice video and I would rarely recommend flying round Thailand unless you are in a hurry. Scenically is a fascinating country to visit if you have the time to enjoy it. As for Bangkok's new main station – it may not appear all that busy now, but the Thais have ambitious plans for developing its high-speed services and over the next few years there will a substantial increase in the available service spreading across much of the country.

  3. Kcuf me! Are you nuts? You sat in a box for 13 hours instead of taking a one hour flight??? Whats wrong with you? You could have got to the UK faster. WTF dude. You need to wise up😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

  4. Maybe this is a stupid question but I am gonna ask it either way….. Mom and me bought a train ticket from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station (You called it the niew station, right?). We need to pick up our tickets at the 12go (12Go Chatuchak Station, Phahonyothin Rd, Chatuchak, Khet Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900, Thailand).
When I looked it up, it said it was a walk of almost 4km. On the map it looks close together. Was it that far apart for you too? Or did I do something wrong with the takeaway. Because just walking 4km in 35 degrees is not that nice, right?
Thank you soooooooooooo much for anwsering my question <3
PS: we loved the video !

  5. I see you got first-class as your choice on Express 9 from Bangkok-Chiang Mai, I would have chosen that for my Chiang Mai-Bangkok but it was all booked, so I had to go with second-class, which I have to say is actually quite impressive too.

  6. This is now central station in Thailand it have to be this big because high speed bullet train is under construction right now imagine catching metro trains and change to bullet train to travel across the country in Thailand or catching the normal train across the country

  7. Isn’t an airline ticket approximately the same price as a first class ticket on this train? I’m interested in the advantage of the train as it doesn’t seem cost is an advantage if booking a first class ticket.

  8. Responding late, I know –
Arriving into Thailand by plane will take you to Suvanibhumi airport, not Don Muang unless you're on a local flight. Which is why I normally just catch a connecting flight. You didn't miss much by not being able to watch the television, as Thai tv is almost universally dire. Download some watching material if you are going to be in the country for any length of time. They do make great horror films, though, and some good comedies.

While in Thailand, should we fancy a few days in Krung Theyp my wife and I will normally take the train (second class sleeper) although we have found two good "VIP" coach services as an alternative. We do prefer the train as we both enjoy the chance to meet new people and chat (and I can get more practice in conversational Thai).

It's very different to my first trip on Christmas Eve 2003, in 3rd class on an ancient train. Wooden slatted bench seats, no air-con (although you could step out onto a little footplate between the carriages for some air), and sharing the carriage were just 3 middle aged Thai people who welcomed a confused-looking farang who had onlyverybasic understanding of whatwas being said. Great day, rounded off by meeting my now-wife on the platform when I arrived in CM.
    😁
