This about the smoke is eggagerated. Been here 9 years and the last 2 years have been way better than the past, but saying 3 months of smoke is ridiculous, never more than 4 – 6 weeks. It's true thatt it gets bad, but this account (smaelling like smoke after 5 mins) is over the top.

Come to China. In HZ, a tier 2 city, the rent is just $300 a month for a 3-bedroom apartment. Food price is also cheap in China.

I've been visiting Chinag Mai for 15 years, and many of those visits have been during the month of March, not once has the burning season been a cause for concern (it's barely noticeable most days), and if you've seen the footage from Songkran this year, it didn't appear to bother the locals or the tourists either did it..
I think what we have here is an old fart ex-pat creating scare stories because he's a bitter old man that hates the sight of young westerners..
One minute he telling us Chiang Mai is dead, then in next he's telling us areas are ruined because it's packed with tourists.
