CHIANG MAI: Would I Ever Leave? | What’s New…

Back in the Rose of the North! 🌹 After weeks on the road across Isaan and Bangkok, I’ve finally returned home to Chiang Mai — and wow, the city’s changing fast! From freshly paved roads and new cafes to familiar faces and loyal subscribers around Tha Phae Gate, this vlog is all about rediscovering my favourite city in Northern Thailand.

Join me as I walk the moat, check out new spots, chat with travellers from Argentina, the Philippines, and Taiwan, and reflect on one big question — could I ever leave Chiang Mai for another Thai city? After exploring Udon Thani, Pak Chong, and Bangkok, I’ve realised where I truly belong.

We’ll also talk about what’s new in town — smoother roads, the rumoured moat geese 🦢, and updates around the old city before the next big Northern Thailand road trip begins. Winter’s coming, the air’s cooler, and it’s nearly Loy Krathong season — the perfect time to be in Chiang Mai.

So grab a drink, sit back, and let’s wander the streets of Chiang Mai together. Would I ever leave? Let’s find out…

  1. BIG thanks to everyone who watched the Isaan and Laos series. It was one of the best. 24 vlogs later and were back home in the good ol' CHIANG MAI city. Another new series is just around the corner as we buckle up for our annual winter Northern Thailand road trip. Take it easy, man.

  2. Well Wayne, I'm watching from Udon and have just driven back from Bueng Kan for a local festival. It was beautiful. First time this old girl has left Jomtien since i arrived. Now I've got to travel some more, I've got the travel bug! After being here, I really want to visit Chang Mai…. your town.

  3. Hi wayne roughly what price can you get a studio room for in the center of chaing mai by the moat. Im retireing to Thailand in 2 years. It's a toss up between pattaya and chaing mai. Pattaya studios ive seen are around 7000b a month. I just want a room that looks like a hotel room that will do me . I went chaing mai 3 times in the early 90s I guess it has changed a lot

  4. Thanks Wayne, great vlog as always, I can't wait to visit in January. I'm intrigued what all those grey boxes on the pavements are? Saw one at 2:06 and thought it was a speed camera but then you passed loads more!

  5. As Paul Young sang home is where you lay your hat. I told you a while back we sold our home in Chiang Rai but a week after the sale we bought a new place as we could not leave the North and the real Thailand. We will head back to our place on Koh Phangan but Chiang Rai is our home where we lay our hat.

  6. It's always nice to be home, looking forward to seeing Chiang Mai, as well as new adventures. ✈🛵🛺🛥. I don't know the deal with the Blue Noodle but I stayed down the street and I never felt like waiting in that line. Maybe next visit I will.

  7. Nice video as always Wayne. Back from the province and being the only farang in the village 😊 to the city. Chang mai.will be in changmai 6 to 16 November i think its the lana festival ? If that's correct where is the best place to go to see.

  8. Chiang Mai is home for me now. Been here 18 months. People complain about the tourists and all the farangs, but for me it's nice to have them around to talk to now and again. Oh, and the geese hang out around Chiang Mai Gate mostly. It's kind of nice to see them.

  9. My wife and I were in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai back in May for my birthday. Ee loved the area so much we plan another trip there next May for my bd again. We rode the VIP20 BUS overnight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and I thought is was great with no trouble sleeping. My wife was not so excited about it but she's prejudiced against buses as we live in the Philippines and the buses here suck. Always stopping along the road to drop or pick people up. I noticed a lot of vacant shops on your walk. Is that normal?
