I am a frequent visitor, and I will say, probably the best part of Thailand, was and in my mind still is, Isan … Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Yasothon, Mukdahan … this is the heart of the country and a MUST to explore and experience. The TRUE Thai culture, not spoiled by the Western World and it's demand for tourism.
